English Language Arts (ELA) Curriculum Adoption Recommendation (Grades K-3)
Gold Trail Union School District is in the process of adopting a new English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum for K-3 students. Our educators and district leadership have examined our district’s early literacy needs and reviewed instructional materials to determine the best fit for our students. The team focused on ensuring the curriculum is robust, literature-based, and fully aligned with the California Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for English Language Arts.
The committee has identified and is recommending the adoption of a locally aligned curriculum formally titled:
K-3: Gold Trail Union School District Integrated ELA:
Student Anthology & Literature Studies
This comprehensive curriculum incorporates high-quality resources from Rooted in Reading. It provides students with engaging, standards-aligned informational texts, fiction passages, and vocabulary studies. Students will have a Student Anthology (a physical spiral-bound reader) which will be supported by interactive student composition notebooks and teacher-led mentor text instruction in the classroom.
Gold Trail Union School District values feedback from students and parents. Hard copies of the proposed Student Anthologies and mentor texts are available for viewing at Sutter’s Mill. We encourage any interested community members to review the physical materials and provide feedback.
History-Social Science Curriculum Adoption Recommendation (Grades K-3)
Gold Trail Union School District is in the process of adopting a new History-Social Science curriculum for K-3 students. Our educators have reviewed state-adopted instructional materials to find a program that is engaging, accurate, and fully aligned with the California History-Social Science Content Standards and Framework.
The committee has identified and is recommending the adoption of the following state-adopted program:
K-3: California Studies Weekly
California Studies Weekly is an interactive curriculum presented in a student-friendly periodical (newspaper) format. Because it is a consumable resource, every student will receive their own new weekly edition to read, highlight, and engage with in class, which they will then take home to share with their families. The curriculum also includes a robust online portal with audio readers, primary source analysis tools, and extended multimedia resources.
Gold Trail Union School District values feedback from students and parents. Hard copies of the Studies Weekly periodicals are available for viewing at Sutter’s Mill. We also encourage families to explore the digital platform to see the online resources available to students.
Online access to review the curriculum is included below:
Kindergarten
We will begin using the newly adopted materials in the 2026-27 school year.
Mathematics Curriculum Pilot - Adopted June 5, 2025
Gold Trail Union School District is in the process of piloting new mathematics curriculum for K-8 students. Gold Trail has established a Math Adoption Committee comprised of teachers, site administrators, and district leadership to determine the new materials that will best serve our students. This group has examined our district’s needs, as well as key research about best instructional practices for math instruction. The teams spent time reviewing each of the standards-aligned curricula for presence of key concepts, logical sequence, student understanding, monitoring student progress, and teacher support.
The committee has identified the following math programs to pilot during the fall semester of the 24-25 school year:
During the spring semester, the following two math programs will be piloted:
Classrooms from all grade levels in each of our schools will pilot curricula as listed above. During the pilot process, data on both the teacher and student mathematics experience and learning will be collected.
Gold Trail values feedback from students and parents. Hard copies of materials were available for viewing at Sutter’s Mill and Gold Trail in September and October. We have extended our online parent input window, and we encourage any interested community members to provide feedback using the links below:
Online access to each of the curricula is included below through the end of November:
